Ford Mustang Mach 1 - Ram Air 351-4V/4Speed/Locker (10K Original Miles) Description (SOLD):

This incredible Ram Air 351 4 Bbl Cleveland Mach 1 has only 10K original miles (actually 10,006 as of May 18, 2009). How’s that happen? It was ordered by a Ford dealership auto mechanic (with about every option) in 08/70 (delivered 11/02/70) and, along with his wife, it was the love of his life until his death in 1999. He kept it in a climate controlled garage where the temperature never got lower than 55 or higher than 70. Weather permitting he would take his family out riding around once a month on a Sunday morning and he had two eighteen foot walls with awards from car shows. In a letter to Mustang Monthly on February 2, 1982 he stated that it had 5,700 miles at that time. In 2003 his wife sold this beauty to an advertising agency contracted by Yoo Hoo and it was subsequently used in a major national marketing campaign.

The only modification the original owner made to the car was to add removable Trans-Am Racing stripes (the larger upper side stripes) and a narrow pin stripe, as well as, removal of the spare tire and some of the factory info decals. The car has the original matching number engine and the data tags are still on the carburetor and transmission. Except for an intake gasket change (from the looks of the engine’s paint, it might have been leaking coolant), only “consumable” items have been replaced (battery, battery cables, heater hoses, radiator hoses, mufflers & tail pipes, brake light switch, tires). While cars are only original once, this 10K mile car is about as close as you can get. And yes – that is the original paint and interior.

Few options were spared on this car. It sports Bright Red Paint, front & rear spoilers, dual sport mirrors, black with silver accent vinyl sports interior, trio gauge package (oil pressure, ammeter & temperature), am/fm stereo radio, wide ratio four speed with Hurst shifter, 3.25:1 Detroit Locker differential, competition performance package, power disc brakes, power steering, Magnum 500 wheels and more. The VIN and Door Data Tag decode as follows:

VIN - 1F05M142571
1 1971
F Dearborn Assembly Plant
05 Sportsroof Mach1
M 351-4V Engine (Cleveland)
142571 42,571st 1971 Vehicle Built at Dearborn Plant

Data Tag
63R Sportsroof Mach1
3 Bright Red Paint
5A Sports, Black, All Vinyl Interior
R 3.25:1 Traction-Lok Axle
5 Four-Speed Wide Ratio Manual Transmission (2.78:1)
46 Indianapolis Ordering District

Documentation includes the car's Marti Report, a number of old pictures of the car, including some with the original owner, some on display with awards/trophies and one on an autocross course, as well as, one letter the original owner wrote and one his wife wrote about the car. This stunning near original low mileage surviving example of the muscle car era is a worthy addition to any collection and runs, sounds, drives & shows great.
