Chevrolet Impala SS Description (SOLD):

This close ratio four speed, dual quad, posi-trac 409CI/409HP was built at the Janesville, Wisconsin plant and was purchased new in Omaha, Nebraska. The car stayed in Omaha until 2000 as three buddies “took turns owning the car. The first getting the car new while in high school and the second buying it from the first when the first got married in 1965. As his family came along, the second owner ended up storing the car in a barn from 1969 to 1993. In 1993 the second owner and the third buddy hooked it up to a tractor and pulled it out of the barn. The third buddy bought the car and began a frame off restoration to original specs that was finished in 1997.

Once complete, the third owner didn’t want to deteriorate the restoration and thus wasn’t able to make himself drive and enjoy the car. In late 1999 he sold it to a “certified 409 Nut in Oklahoma, under whose tutelage the car underwent a second highly detailed partial restoration in 2000. The engine, tranny & front clip were removed; the chassis redetailed, including some paint work and powder coating of suspension parts & springs; the firewall repainted; the engine redetailed; engine compartment components redetailed, including replating of bolts; new carpet was installed; the original console was rechromed; and the 1962 SS hubcaps were re-restored.

The second highly detailed restoration (about as near perfect as you can get) has resulted in multiple Late Great Chevy National and Super Chevy Show Restored Original Class wins and runner ups with scoring as high as 987 (out of 1,000). The Cowl Tag confirms the car’s red bucket seat Super Sport interior (code 875-508), tuxedo black paint (code 900) and that the body was built in the 4th week of March in 1962 (code 3D).

It would be a significant challenge to find a more correct (see Casting Numbers and Date Codes) and/or higher quality investment grade example of the classic 1962 Chevy that ushered in the high performance muscle car era by winning races at the drag strip right off the showroom floor.
